太空人柯林斯飛進月球陰暗面，失去與所有人的聯繫，只有他獨自一人與廣袤無際的宇宙……。
當我腦中浮現這畫面時，大衛鮑伊 (David Bowie) 的歌〈太空怪談〉(Space Oddity) 總會隨之響起：

這首歌的歌詞描述太空人湯姆少校從火箭發射升空，一直到進入太空後，獨自在太空中漂浮。由於它在 1969 年 7 月 11 日發行，正是阿波羅 11 號發射升空的五天前，不免令人將它與此次登月任務聯想在一起。尤其幾天之後，阿姆斯壯與艾德林踏上月球，柯林斯獨自留在月球軌道，他在漆黑太空中的隻身孤影，與湯姆少校多麼相似啊！
不過大衛鮑伊並不是為了人類首次登月才寫下〈Space Oddity〉這首歌，啟發他的是前一年上映的電影《2001太空漫遊》(2001: A Space Odyssey)；他還特地把歌名取成電影片名的諧音。
儘管如此，由於發行時間的巧合，加上這首歌的確將置身太空的情境寫得非常好，英國 BBC 在轉播登陸月球時，還是採用〈Space Oddity〉作為背景音樂。幸好登月任務順利完成，否則這首歌可能會被認為觸霉頭，因為歌詞中湯姆少校最後因電路故障，與地面控制中心時失去聯繫，就此漂浮在太空艙外，束手無策。
無論如何，大衛鮑伊因為〈Space Oddity〉開始走紅，這首歌也被不斷翻唱，成為搖滾樂的經典歌曲。而曲中的孤寂感與無力感，又可以對比我們人生中的某些情境，因此也被許多電影與影集作為配樂（例如《白日夢冒險王》）。
我最喜歡的翻唱作品是加拿大太空人哈德菲爾 (Chris Hadfield) 於 2013 年，在國際太空站上漂浮著自彈自唱。這是他最後一次太空任務，他在告別太空返回地球的前一天唱這首歌，格外令人有所感觸。當然，哈德菲爾可不想成為湯姆少校，所以他除了把情境改為離開太空站，還把電路故障、與妻訣別那幾句歌詞，改為時間將盡，對地球投以最後一瞥。
